GIS UNIT

As is the case with the NGCC, the GIS Coordination Unit was also established within the project Establishment of the National GIS project. The GIS Coordination Unit was set up in October 2003. The Unit is the secretariat of the National GIS Coordination Committee, and the reponsibilities include:

Promotion of the NSDI initiative

Administration of Documents

Dissemination of information

Coordination of the Web-site and the Metadata Service

Administration of NSDI Meetings, Workshops and Seminars

The unit will also support and assist the convenors of the six permanent Working Groups.
The near future includes the production and distribution of an SDI Newsletter to the GI Community and anyone else interested.
Staff:
At the moment there are two officers working at the Unit. It is hoped that, with stakeholders’ commitment and involvement in these initiatives, the Unit will expand and grow.
